Complementary therapies for pain management
Women sometimes seek nutritional or complementary therapies to control symptoms from endometriosis and some report improvement in pain symptoms. Such therapies include homeopathy, acupuncture, reflexology, traditional Chinese medicine and herbal treatments. Although there is little available evidence to show effectiveness, such approaches should not be discouraged if it is felt that they may contribute to pain relief and improve quality of life. Such treatments may be used together with traditional therapies so long as they are appropriate to the patient’s individual circumstances.
